In 2015, EXTENT Heritage (formely Futurepast Heritage Consulting Pty Ltd) provided Masterplan heritage advice for the proposed redevelopment of Arthur Phillip High School and Parramatta Public School in Parramatta. The site and buildings are associated with provision of education since 1876 and have a wide appreciation in, and associations with, the local community.

Significance

Both schools have substantial aesthetic and historic significance, and are representative examples of a late 19th Century and early 20th Century school buildings of rare quality in the local area. The site and buildings are associated with provision of education since 1876 and have a wide appreciation in, and associations with, the local community. The original school buildings make a major contribution to the Parramatta townscape in unison with the associated buildings. The site also neighbours a Commonwealth listed heritage item, the Lancer Barracks.

The Project

In July 2015, EXTENT Heritage (formerly Futurepast Heritage Consulting Pty Ltd) were commissioned by Archaeological and Heritage Management Solutions (AHMS) to provide heritage advice on the Masterplan for the redevelopment of Arthur Phillip High School and Parramatta Public School in Parramatta. The Masterplan sought to redevelop the schools into new, multi-storey education facilities to meet project demand in the Parramatta City Centre. Three heritage items were located within the site, along with the Commonwealth listed Lancer Barracks on the periphery. The potential heritage impact of the works to the built environment was considered, along with design recommendations to alleviate this impact.
