The site of Newcastle Reservoirs No. 1 and 2 are significant to the heritage of NSW for their role in supplying water to central Newcastle. This critical piece of infrastructure helped Newcastle grow and expand into a major manufacturing and residential centre in the 20th Century. The site contains examples of water supply infrastructure dating from the 1880s to the 1920s. The attention to detail and design elements found around the site are now examples of rare late 19th and early 20th century building techniques.
